“Today, most everyone is in a trance-like state... constantly upset, worked-up, dissociated, and stimulated.”

Whether readers agree with every argument or not, this piece challenges assumptions and refuses easy answers. That's valuable in itself.

Bold. Original. Provocative. I'M SUBSCRIBING!

I write at The Reflective State, where one of my ongoing series is Mountain Mysteries—atmospheric tales of mystery, folklore and the unexplained set in the mountains of India.

If curiosity ever brings you my way, I'd genuinely love to know what you think.

Really interesting read, Blake. I wasn't expecting the comparison between gooning and political/media consumption, but you made a surprisingly compelling case for it. The part that stuck with me most was the idea that constant algorithm-driven stimulation can gradually replace real-world engagement without us even noticing. Whether it's social media, news, or anything else, it's hard to deny how easy it is to slip into consumption rather than participation. Definitely gave me something to think about!

Realized that Substack unfortunately doesn’t allow pics as comments but please insert the Always Has Been meme:

Wait, it’s all gooning?

Always has been.
